According to CNN.com, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office will reopen the case of Natalie Wood’s boating accident that resulted in her death. Wood drown on Nov. 29, 1981, off Catalina Island when she disappeared while on her yacht . Her body was found hours later floating about a mile away. Autopsy results showed she had dozens of bruises about her body and one large one on her left cheek and arm.

Wood who was married to actor Robert Wagner at the time, did not know how to swim and was only dressed in a night gown, socks and down jacket. Many in the Wood family have believed that her death was a direct result of a quarrel she apparently had with Wagner moments before she vanished. Although the county coroner’s office ruled that Wood’s death was an accident, others say the case hasn’t made sense. Christopher Walken who was filming the movie Brainstorm with Wood at the time, was invited aboard that Thanksgiving weekend  and was present the night of the tragedy. He claimed he only saw the events leading up to the fight between Wagner and Wood. It has long been rumored that Wagner was jealous of Walken and that Wood’s death was a cover-up in order to protect Wagner.

Detectives reportedly are reopening the case after being contacted by numerous people who supposedly have “new information” regarding the night in question. Dennis Davern, the former captain of the yacht ‘Splendour’ who witnessed most of the arguement that fateful evening broke his silence finally in 2009 with a tell-all called “Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour,” in which he directly blamed Wagner’s row with Wood for her death. Wagner and Wood married in 1957, divorced in 1962 and remarried in 1972. The case has been reopened as a ‘homicide’, almost 30 years ago to the day.
