When Fiction Becomes Reality

It can be cliche, but it’s oh so true.  It’s becoming more and more commonplace for reality to become fiction.  Witness the props of STAR TREK, or the futuristic inventions imagined by H.G. Wells.  The latest example comes from none other than Ray Bradbury, arguably one of the finest Science Fiction writers to date.

It was announced today that Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” is being released as an eBook at long last.
The format is nothing new, but Bradbury’s involvement certainly is.  In the book, Bradbury paints a world where faster media leads to a decline in reading, with books eventually being burned.  While we’re not exactly stoking the fires with our hardcovers yet, the first half of that premise seems to be alive and well in our society.

Mercifully Amazon and other outlets are attempting to make sure we don’t become COMPLETELY illiterate by having us read these eBooks, but it doesn’t make the underlying theme any less poignant.

It’s important to take note that in this day and age, it’s vital for us to remain true to our inquisitive selves, feed our thirst for knowledge and embrace our past to make a better future.  In other words, don’t go burning books.  They are good blueprints for the past.

The Associated Press reports that “Fahrenheit 451” will also see a new paperback edition in January with paperbacks of “The Martian Chronicles” and “Illustrated Man” following in March.
