On Friday, the good folks at 20th Century Fox dropped the trailer for Taken 2 on YouTube. If, like me, you were a fan of the first film, then this trailer should trigger all the right areas of your pleasure zone!
Thinking back to the first Taken, we can remember a film that not only taught us that Liam Neeson is a force to be reckoned with (WITHOUT a lightsaber, dammit!), but reminded us that you can enjoy an action film without having to know every single detail of plot (because, let’s be honest, some of the most intensely crafted plots can fall apart under ANY kind of scrutiny and it’s just sometimes better to leave the details to the maguffins.)
The trailer to Taken 2 is, in itself, a tribute to the trailer to the first film. It fires on all the same cylinders. The good news is, this film raises the stakes by EMBRACING the events of the first film. See for yourself.
Now the obvious fear here is that, much like Die Hard 2, this film will simply try to recreate the original with the exact same plot simply set in a different location. On the other hand this could very well be the Wrath of Khan of the Taken series. This time, it REALLY IS “personal”.
So repeat to yourself “it’s just a film… I should really just relax.” Besides, with Luc Besson back behind the writer’s quill, how bad could this possibly be?
